No One's Going to Hell for Being Gay
While the bible is very clear on what is, and is not, sin, it also tells us what does and does not save us. Do you know what it takes to belong to the kingdom of God? Read on to find out who and why a person might be in Heaven or Hell.
Let me ask you a question, if you claim to know and follow Christ:
Q. For which sins did Christ die?
A. 1 John 2:2 says that Christ died for the sins of the "children" of God AND for the sins of the whole world.
What does this mean for us? It means that when we stand before God at judgment, he will not say "Depart from me because you lied, stole, or were gay." Instead, we are told in the gospel of Matthew that he will tell us, "Depart from me for I never knew you (7:23)." Only then will He tell us that our iniquities mattered.
Christian friends: standing against homosexuality is NOT our cause!
Our goal is to give God glory and, I have to say, some of the Facebook status posts I've seen are very disappointing. Nowhere in the Bible will you read that we are to convert a gay man to become a straight one. We are told to share Christ with people and hope for the Holy Spirit's work in them to help us grow the kingdom of God. Furthermore, no one will go to Hell for being gay any more than another for adultery or gossip. Sin was paid for...rejecting the saving work of the Holy Spirit through the death and resurrection of Christ (Matthew 12:31) is the only reason anyone won't be in heaven (now read our blog post titled: You may not really love God). Let's make THAT our cause - seeing people know the Savior and trust in His finished work of dying in our place and for our sins, and being raised, proving the Father's satisfaction. Focus on giving God glory and revealing his love to others and I bet you will see better results. We should be seeking to make Christ known, instead we seek to make the outside of the cup clean while disregarding the dirty inside. I see no protests against married men looking at pornography in secret, but their "cup," according to God's word, is just as dirty as any other man's sin. Let's focus on introducing everyone - no matter how clean or filthy they look to us - to Christ!
Matthew 6:33
But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.
Oh and one more thing -
Ask yourself this question: Does someone being attracted to the same sex disqualify them from belonging to a church?
How 'bout this one: Does the fact that I am attracted to women besides my wife disqualify me from belonging to a church? No, but it would disqualify me if I gave in to that sin and pursued another woman or even dwelt on thought of her lustfully.
No, but we like to elevate others' struggles above our own so that we might feel better about ourselves. That feeling will dissipate the moment we hold up the word of God as our mirror rather than someone else's life.
To my gay/LGBT supporter friends: I operate under the law of God found in His word. If you are not a follower of Christ, you are not under the same law as me. I do not expect you to live by rules you haven't signed up for, but you should not expect me to be in favor of the law to which you subscribe. By all means let the state/government hand out marriage licenses and the same tax benefits I get, but do not demand to infiltrate my church and claim the right to break the law of God in His own house. I love Christ and He is my cause, my purpose. The confederate flag, homosexuality, and the Jenner man/woman are not even secondary or tertiary. I just want to let my position be known but I am also to "be at peace with everyone, as far as it depends on you!"(Romans 12:18).
